What to see and do in Daisy Hill

Nestled not far off the Bruce Highway, halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, you’ll find the charming family-oriented suburb of Daisy Hill within the City of Logan.

There’s one particular block off Daisy Hill Road — between Allamanda Drive and Cupania Street — where the business owners consider each other, and their customers, family.

For lovers of action, there’s the Daisy Hill Squash and Racquet Clubwhere Brad and Lisa (ex-Commonwealth Games representatives for the sport) will look after you.

“Between us, we have enough knowledge here to grow the game from a beginners youth right up to a professional Commonwealth Games level,” said Brad.

Since recent re-establishment, the club has rapidly increased in membership and Brad hopes to keep it climbing.

“Squash is a social family game, it’s the original Facebook networking club,” he said. “People that work together — doctors, lawyers, tradesmen — they can come on one court, have a chat, talk business, come back next week and do the same thing again.”

A couple of doors over, pop in and say hi to Chris from Christopher’s Fine Food and Wine. With a passion for beautiful local produce, Chris’ infectious smile greets regular local clientele as he serves up delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner.

He also feels he’s lucky to be able to work in the Daisy Hill community.

“It’s a very family-oriented area,” said Chris. “I’ve seen generations grow up, go to school and work for us half the time.

“Everyone’s like family around here.”

Accessible from the adjacent Cupania Street is super funky Wally’s Barber Shop. Here Wally has been fulfilling his passion, cutting hair for his regulars and building that one-on-one relationship with each and every one.

“Barbering is my passion; I’ve been doing it for about ten years,” he beamed. “It’s really good… you meet so many different people.”

The relaxed ambiance inside is complemented by “positive vibes only” according to Wally. The swanky leather couches help, too.

Just next door to Wally’s, you’ll find the beautiful Unveiling Poppy. From the moment you step through the doors, you won’t be able to resist smiling.

Owner Amy is amazing at what she does, with multiple floristry awards under her belt (don’t ask her about them, though; she’s far too modest) and her passion for her craft is undeniable.

“With floristry, you can be part of someone’s life in a myriad of different occasions,” she said. “It could be the happiest time or the saddest time; so for them to come into a creative, beautiful space and walk out feeling elated and happy… to know that we’re a community that gets to be a part of that is a really special thing.”
