In March 2017 the Queen’s Baton Relay left Buckingham Palace, and it will have passed through 71 countries on its 388 day journey to the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on April 4, 2018.
On Christmas Eve the baton arrives in Australia and details of where and when that journey takes it are now available online, as well as a list of the thousands of local legends who’ll be carrying it.
Brisbane company Designworks created and built the baton, that symbolises the boundless energy of the Gold Coast. It incorporates macadamia timber, stainless steel and reclaimed plastic in a nod to the Gold Coast’s past, present and future.
