Curtis McGrath

Para canoeist Curtis McGrath doesn’t let his disability slow him down.

After having both his legs amputated as a result of a mine blast while serving for the Australian Army, Curtis set a goal for himself to one day compete in the Paralympics. He’s since won gold in Rio in 2016, and continues to train hard for his next big race.

Curtis loves being outdoors and spending his days exploring all that the Gold Coast has to offer. Most of all, he enjoys the active lifestyle of the region.

On the water at Varsity Lakes Sports House in the early hours of the morning, Curtis trains hard to master his sport of para canoeing.

After his training sessions, he loves to relax and unwind with friends at the beach, or the local cafes.

Curtis highly recommends Rick Shores, a restaurant with quite the offering of delectable seafood and a particular favourite of Curtis’s, the Morton Bay Bug roll.
