What to see and do in Canungra

The mountain communities around Tamborine were recently threatened by horrible bushfires. Areas around Beechmont and Canungra copped the brunt of the fires. But we Queenslanders are a resilient bunch and the townships are now back and ready for us to show them some love.

We’ve visited Canungra a couple of times on the show and it’s one of Jess’ favourite parts of the beautiful Gold Coast hinterland. It’s a town of creative people. Whether they are crafting beautiful coffees or desserts. Tinkering away with hand-made wares, or curating collections of the above.

One such curation is Canungra Books and Art. Jan McGregor rules the stacks of the bookshop come vintage collectable haven. Old school clothing, vintage LPs, art, pottery…the works. Worth a little sticky beak if you’re in town.

Canungra can be more than just a day trip. Of all the beautiful BnB’s around the area, Country Mile Escape is up there with the best of them. Sitting pretty on a ridge in Illinbah, the working cattle property plays host to two gorgeous cabins. Trish is the matriarch of the property, a true Canungran. She has lived her entire life in the area and absolutely adores sharing her passion for this beautiful mountainous area with her guests.
