Where to buy a real Christmas tree in Queensland

For many of us, an artificial tree seems to be the go-to each year when the festive season rolls around. But this year, The Great Day Out team took a trip to the South Burnett to pick our own Christmas tree — with over 13,000 to choose from!

Chrissy Trees 4 U is located on the outskirts of Kingaroy and is one of the very few places in Queensland where you can pick your own pine. It’s the brainchild of Debbie and Chris Bunker, who a decade ago, decided to open a Christmas shop on their already-established farm, which they first bought close to 25 years ago.

Since then, they’ve grown Duboisia (used in a pharmaceutical drug) on their land, but it wasn’t until their kids grew up and left home that Debbie noticed she had a little extra time on her hands. It was then Chris gave her a portion of the land to start her own hobby, but never did she think the Christmas tree farm would grow to its current size!

The best part is, you can visit their property to pick your own tree between December 1-19, 2019. It truly is a lovely day — for the whole family, young couples or even a group of housemates/friends. Alternatively, you can organise to pick your tree up from a collection point either in Brisbane, Toowoomba or Caboolture by ordering from the website here.

If you’re thinking of making a weekend of it in Kingaroy, just a hop, skip and jump across the paddock is Mulanah Gardens Bed and Breakfast. Rhonda and Lindsay Kath run this B&B … an idyllic stopover if you’re travelling through the region, or a weekend getaway in its own right! They have two cottages, and they really have catered for everything. Book your stay here or by calling Rhonda or Lindsay on 0427643142.

Mulanah Gardens are open to the public for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea each Sunday, and their menu is just divine. We were treated to a corn beef stack, a beef and bacon cottage pie, and crispy-skin salmon. You really can work up quite the appetite while Christmas tree shopping!
