Getting active in the Mary Valley

Behind the Sunshine Coast hinterland is the lesser-known Mary Valley. It’s a country holiday destination where some people come to relax, and others come to get active.

If you’re looking for the latter, then Ride on Mary’s Nature Triathlon is a great way to get the heart rate going. You’ll be challenged to a 7-kilometre kayak along Yabba Creek, a 3-kilometre hike along an old railway cutting and finally, a 17-kilometre bike ride through the scenic Imbil forest and country roads. These distances can be increased or decreased depending on river flows and fitness levels.

Ride on Mary’s Nature Triathlon is a great way to see local wildlife, whether on water or land, while still getting an all-round workout.

You’re likely to be feeling a bit sore after exploring the Mary Valley, so we recommend an overnight stay at Elsie of Imbil. The three-bedroom self-contained home is a worker’s cottage, that was built in the early 1900’s. There’s heating and cooling, as well as plenty of other facilities to make life comfortable.
