Just 15 minutes by road from the Ipswich CBD is the Spring Mountain Conservation Park – and its centre-piece is White Rock.
The beautiful sandstone outcrop is millions of years old and, over that time, has been slowly weathering away – leaving stunning creamy-white tones that can be seen today.
The trail to the top is an easy walk and can be accessed by hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders.
The park itself also holds fascinating military history. During both World Wars and the Vietnam War, the area was used extensively as training grounds for US and Australian troops.
Reminders of this can be found in a few surviving gun impoundments hidden in the park.
