When you think of tinsel, Christmas typically springs to mind… but for Brisbane-based garment designer, Rachel Burke, this glittery goodness makes more than just an annual appearance.
You might be better acquainted with Rachel’s stage name, @Imakestagram on Instagram, which is where most of her vibrant designs and wild tinsel creations are featured, along with a small insight into her Bad Art Night sessions.
And there’s a reason why they’re called Bad Art Night. Rachel’s bi-monthly workshops are held at GOMA and are an evening of creativity and self-expression without the pressure of creating something ‘good’… and the best part is, all the goods are made using foil… and can be made into whatever you desire.
As Rachel says… “I love playing with tinsel and things, but also love anything shiny and also love looking to old household things and being able to reimagine potentially mundane things and making them a bit more extraordinary and razzle dazzle, and I really like that because then I feel like it encourages people to not necessarily need crazy, expensive materials to be creative, when really you can just look around the kitchen… and voila, you can make a headpiece!”
Speaking of which, check out this cute tote bag Rachel whipped up using a cereal box as the base… genius.
Rachel’s next Bad Art Night session is on Wednesday November 27, 2019 at GOMA. You can buy tickets here… but be quick – they sell fast!
