Dog Friendly Gold Coast

A family pet can be a big influence when it comes to planning a Great Day Out.

Sofie Formica’s dog, Shasta, has been a much-loved member of the family for two years – and there are plenty of places on the Gold Coast where owners and their four-legged loved ones are more than welcome.

The northern side of Currumbin Lagoon and its adjacent beachfront are designated an off-leash area, offering dogs and families plenty of space to run and swim.

Just behind the dunes near the off-leash beach, you’ll find Dune Café – where patrons with dogs are also welcome. And it’s not only four-legged family members who turn up: the café was recently voted the most kid-friendly café on the coast.

After a morning spent on the sand, long-haired dogs like Shasta may need a wash down. Pawsh Pet Spa, at Mermaid Beach, is decked out to look like a hairdressing salon – though the clients are probably hairier than most! An organic pet spa, Pawsh also offers cage-free doggy day care.

If you’d like to stay a while on the coast with your furry friend, there are several dog-friendly accommodation options.

The first is Kirra Beach Tourist Park, just north of the Queensland-NSW border – a hop, skip and a jump from the beach.

The second pet-friendly place to consider is stunning ‘Katta on Currumbin’ – a 5-star contemporary beach house on Currumbin Hill.
