It’s time to make history!
The Channel 7 Brisbane Racing Carnival is the premier event on the Queensland racing calendar. Doomben Racecourse comes alive with four fantastic race meetings to attend, from the 12th of May until the 9th of June.
While thousands gather trackside to witness the excitement of race day, what we don’t see is the hard work and dedication that goes into preparing for the carnival.
Brisbane horse trainer, Tony Gallon and his team are up before the sun to run his horses through their training routine. Excitement is building at their stables at Eagle Farm Racecourse and according to Tony, nothing beats a hometown carnival!
Last year’s carnival was a real humdinger for Brisbane jockey Jim Byrne, who walked away with two Group 1 wins on Redzel and Capital Gain. As he prepares for the 2018 carnival, he has one thing in mind; to make it bigger and better than his last. No doubt he’ll be wanting a run in the richest race of the carnival; the $1.5 million UBET Stradbroke handicap.
Not all preparations are happening trackside. Milliner, Pamela Cameron from Ascot Hats is hard at work on her carnival collection. A tip for the ladies preparing their outfits – feathers are in and the boater is still a hit this season.
