A unicorn festival is coming to the Gold Coast

Every weekend for over 40 years, the Carrara Markets have been a major attraction of the Gold Coast.

It’s the biggest permanent weekend marketplace in the country featuring over 350 stalls covering a massive 24 acres. Within, homewares, fashion, fun, entertainment and food!

Butch Guinea is a bit of an icon in the produce section. He’s been selling fruit and veg at the markets for over 20 years, growing most of what he sells on his own farm in the Tweed Valley.

His love for the markets is undeniable.

“I go back home and I think about the markets all week whether I’m on the tractor or cutting bananas or whatever I’m doing,” he said. “But get back up, here again, mix it with all the public again and then back to the bush again, it’s a good mixture and I’m humbled by the way we live.”

And from the raw ingredient to the cooked… you’ll find just about anything at Carrara including the best brekky in town at the Hungry Hub. We recommend the brekky burger and the smashed avo on toast!

Come October every year, there’s an extra-special reason to visit the markets… unicorns!

The Unicorn Festival is sugar and spice and all things nice and as you’d expect, everything is unicorn themed from the stalls to face painting, workshops, show bags and lots more.

“We’re expecting thousands to come for it,” said Mia Lee who has been running the markets for over eight years. “Everyone loves unicorns… young and old… it’s an event for everybody, the whole family.”

While the unicorn festival is an annual event, there are plenty of cool permanent features within the markets like the butterfly house, putt-putt, baby animals and lots more.

Catch the Unicorn Festival at the Carrara Markets on the 19th & 20th October 2019.
