The Tastes of Moreton Bay is a month-long festival dedicated to showcasing the best of the bay–spanning all things food, fare and produce. In 2019, starting on the 23rd of August, the festival encompasses an array of events, degustation, farm tours and even a picnic!
We thought it best for local boy Alastair McLeod to show us around a couple of his favourite haunts that will be open to the public during the festival.
First on the list: Ocean View Estates. A family-run business by all measures of the phrase, Ocean View Estates proudly hosts acres of vineyards, a renowned restaurant, brewery and even on-site accommodation for a full wine, dine and stay experience. It all started when Kate and Thomas Honnef decided to combine their love of people and wine! With a biochemistry background, Thomas has always loved crafting the Estates’ varietals of wine and more recently, his daughter has taken up the trade, too…Well, sort of.
Hannah Honnef decided that beer should also be on the menu at Ocean View, so Ocean View Brewing Company was born. Hannah’s brews, Thomas’ wines and the masterfully crafted food of Chef Tony Tierney will be on show when Ocean View Estates host their Local Producers Long Lunch on September 15.
Farther down the road is Pause in Samford. Owner Greg Robson believes that his diners should take their time and enjoy their food at a relaxed pace…hence the name! Pause’s elite team of Italian chefs love their seafood–lucky they live in a region so rich and bountiful with it! Head Chef Rino has created something incredible for Pause’s First Friday Feast as part of the Tastes of Moreton Bay Festival. Four courses, $39, and some of the freshest food possible. Worth considering by anyone’s standards!
