Quirky Bars

Brisbane’s bar scene is certainly shaking things up, and we’re not just talking about the cocktails. Watering holes all over town are now offering quirky twists to lure in thirsty visitors.

The Mermaid Lounge is a bar-within-a-bar, located upstairs inside Lefty’s Old Tome Music Hall in Petrie terrace. It’s underwater themed and has over 80 relics from around the world on display.

Can you keep a Secret is a little gem on Stanley Street in Woolloongabba. It’s a vintage boutique on one side and a funky bar on the other.

The boutique overflows with all kinds of curios and nostalgic pieces and the homely retro-themed craft beer and wine bar is bursting with character.
There are regular events and live music throughout the week and two private rooms out the back with can be reserved for minimum numbers. The Lounge Room and The Garden Room have fabulous retro fit-outs and guests can BYO food from the adjacent restaurants and Vespa Pizza next door.

You’ve heard of cosmos and margaritas…but how about downward dog at the bar? Yep, you better believe it…The Retro Bar in suburban Kenmore offers tummy-tensing yoga by day and tunes and tipples by night

There are 6 yoga classes a week on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays…and come nightfall there’s live music, stand-up and special events all throughout the week.

When it comes to serving up another unique experience, how about a 140 year old church, that’s been transformed into a cocktail bar…that also offers mini-golf?!

Holey Moley indeed! This is the newest kid on the block when it comes to Fortitude Valley’s bustling bar scene.
From the owners of Strike Bowling Bar comes this new entertainment mecca that offers 9 and 18 hole courses with the most interesting and out-there theming. They’re also raising the par on drinks, with the Caddyshack Bar serving up clever cocktail concoctions – like the Tee-quila Mocking Birdie, Teeyonce Holes, Long Island Iced Tee and the Tigertini – named after the golfing legend himself.

While it’s awesome fun for the big kids, the littles don’t miss out either, as Holey Moley is family friendly every day before 5pm (as long as kids are accompanied by an adult)

The venue can be hired out for kid’s parties, special functions, corporate events and it’s perfect for first dates. A 9 hole round costs just $16.50 per person and party packages can be tailored to suit your group.
