Lovers of festivals and Greek culture will unite over the weekend of May 19 and 20 to celebrate 42 years of Brisbane’s most famous Greek Festival, Paniyiri! Over four decades, Paniyiri has grown to become Queensland’s signature celebration of all things Greek, with more than 60,000 expected to attend this year’s extravaganza.
As part of the 2018 event, more than 30 food stalls are set to take over Musgrave Park in South Brisbane, and before you know it you’ll be saying “opa!” to almost every dish there is on offer. With so much to see, do and taste, you can’t go past Paniyiri’s signature festival favourites, including the traditional Hellenic dancers, olive and honey puff guzzling competitions, and of course everyone’s favourite – the plate smashing and grape stomping.
This year, Channel 7 stars will be joining the Paniyiri celebrations, including Home and Away’s Sophie Dillman and Patrick O’Connor (with House Rules contestants still to be announced!). Will you be one of the festival goers to consume the expected 300,000 honey puffs, 100,000 souvlakia, 12,000 dolmades, 20,000 coffees or 1,600 kilograms of grilled haloumi? We will be, so we’ll see you there!
Tickets for children under the age of 13 are FREE, and 2-day adult passes are $20. Head here to purchase tickets: http://bit.ly/BuyPaniyiriTickets
