Crows Nest is a quaint country town just half an hour from Toowoomba. It’s a place that prides itself on lowering its food miles with plenty of tasty gems to be discovered.
Pete owns the town’s butcher, Meats and More. He sources meat from his own farm as well as his neighbours nearby but as the name suggests, you can pick up more than just your daily protein here. Pete provides a shopfront for local producers wanting to sell their products. You’ll find fresh fruit, vegetables and condiments from just around the corner.
Siblings Susan and Steve are one of his suppliers. They harvest honey from their hives to produce Bliss Buzz Honey. Susan has also come up with a crafty alternative to Cling Wrap – Bliss Buzz Wax Food Wraps. The cotton is impregnated with excess beeswax from the hives to create these reusable and ecofriendly products.
Creative thinking seems to be spreading in Crows Nest. At Bunnyconnellen Olive Grove and Vineyard Ninian and Ann Stewart-Moore are putting their own spin on delicious deli products. They use local ironbark to smoke their olives and as a final touch, they add their secret herbs and spices. But it’s not all about olives! You can also buy delicious dukkha’s, vinegar, olive oils, wines and more! The property itself is in a beautiful spot with views looking out to Toowoomba’s town centre. Perch yourself on the verandah or cozy up near the fire and take in the country surrounds. And when the day begins to wind down, a good night’s sleep is only a few steps away. The old farm house has been converted into a character-filled B&B where you’ll find all the comforts of home. Now that’s what we call, a great day out!
