You might be wondering what train travel and science have in common… According to David Hampton at Ipswich’s Workshops Rail Museum, “Railways for the last 200 years, [have] been at the pinnacle of scientific and engineering development.” David’s the curator at the museum and he’s also the man behind the Workshop’s latest exhibition, The Sciencentre.
The exhibition features around 20 interactive stations, where kids and adults can learn about the crucial role science plays in train travel, as well as our daily lives. There’s also a “makerspace”, where you can apply everything you’ve just learnt with hands-on challenges. Challenge one is about building a bridge strong enough for a train to cross over and challenge two is about predicting what transport might look like in the future.
The exhibition is now a permanent feature at The Workshops Rail Museum, which is filled with plenty of other great things to see and do.
