The Ginger Factory

Who remembers a childhood trip to The Ginger Factory? It’s been welcoming visitors to its Yandina HQ since 1981, and it was turning Sunshine Coast ginger into sweet treats from its Buderim factory well before that.

There’s free entry to the iconic tourist attraction, but a visit would not be complete without buying a ticket for a ride aboard Moreton. Moreton was one of Queensland’s original coal-fired cane locomotives. It worked in the local sugar cane industry before taking up its duties here 25 years ago.

There are other family friendly (and very educational) ticketed activities including Ginger Factory Tour and Tastings, and the Live Bee Show and Tastings. At the bee show you’ll learn all about “the waggle dance”!

Littlies will also love Overboard, which is a boat ride “around the world” in search of the elusive Gingerbread Man.  He’ll run run run as fast as he can, and I challenge you to catch him!

If you enjoy the gardens, then save the date for the Ginger Flower + Food Festival from January 18-20, 2019. The three day celebration will feature cooking demonstrations, gardening tips for growing ornamental gingers and heliconias, and thousands of tropical plants will be on sale.

Plenty of tasty ginger and honey products are available in the Ginger Factory gift shop, including a new range of alcoholic ginger beers.
