Topgolf Gold Coast

Towering incredulously to the west of the M1 motorway near Helensvale on the Gold Coast, it’s hard to miss the latest tourist attraction that is: Topgolf. This extravagant, almost disco-like, driving range is not just for the golf-mad among you, this is for everyone. With 10 different games on offer and three levels of booths, it certainly entices you in.

The “Top” in Topgolf stands for target-orientated practice and this is exactly what’s on offer. Think bowling but with golf. The back fence is 190m away and with many different flags centered in colourful circular areas across the range, there is plenty to aim for. Each ball contains a chip and you’re rewarded with points for proximity to the pin, as well as how many times consecutively you can hit close to the target. Games offer 20 balls per person and are run out of bowling alley style booths.

You can swing with accuracy and determination or with hope and a bit of luck, either way you’re in with a chance of landing near one of the flags and earning some points. Each booth has its own climate control and TV screen making it the ultimate venue for those wanting to keep half an eye on the footy scores. Combine all the above with a fully licensed bar and table service and you’ll never want for anything. The menu offers yummy pub-style grub including burgers, chips, nachos and some very spicy chicken wings. There’s even a shuttle bus to take you home at the end of the night.

What sets this apart from any other driving range is it’s overriding sense of fun. There’s certainly a party atmosphere with music playing and a quirky light show illuminating the range at night. It’s a fabulous option for stags and hens, Christmas parties or even just a family day out. It gets busy from dusk so get in early and have a whack – you’ll be out buying your first set of clubs in no time.

Tamsyn Lewis recently went to Topgolf, check out how she got on here.
