“Hooooooops, and everything get back never get back too soon” echoed through The Tivoli last Friday night, and if you haven’t already clued on, I’m talking about The Rubens and their epic Brisbane show which celebrated the release of the boy’s third studio album, LO LA RU. And with 2018 so far proving to be The Rubens’ biggest year yet, it’s easy to see why.
You can bet crowd favourites like Hoops, Lay it Down and My Guns filled the air at The Tivoli, as well as more recent releases from LO LA RU including Million Man and the heart wrenching Never Ever – a late edition to the album which took a turn down the path of heartbreak, disappointment and, ultimately, acceptance of love breaking down – a path The Rubens hadn’t quite ventured down until now, and I never ever doubted they’d get it wrong either 😉
Despite a song about tragedy, the vibe of The Rubens’ performance at The Tivoli certainly wasn’t anything other than upbeat – and boy was it contagious. The crowd was moving, drinks were flowing, and I personally couldn’t spot one person near me who weren’t at least humming to the beat of the songs played.
