Edgewater, Isle of Capri, Surfers Paradise

When my family visited from overseas earlier this year, my husband and I wanted to head out for a special meal. Somewhere with a bit of glamour and sparkle, not just your average restaurant, and so we headed for Edgewater on the Isle of Capri. Situated on one of the many Surfers Paradise waterways, this is a beautiful spot.

We got dressed up in our finest and were hoping for an evening of fine cuisine. The restaurant pitches itself as modern Australian with a twist of traditional Italian. This description is spot on. They’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

To start we shared a plate of calamari, which was hot, beautifully light and served with a divine aioli. I ordered the prawn linguine; my husband ordered the risotto, my step Mum the snapper and my Dad the steak. To say the dishes were essentially faultless would be no word of a lie. My linguine was fresh, tasty, light and scrumptious. Offering a combination of chilli, garlic and lime – it packed a punch in terms of flavour. My husband devoured his creamy, oozing plate of risotto. Dad was delighted with his steak but was simply beaten by its size, and my step Mum thoroughly enjoyed her fish, which was served with a bonus king prawn on the side. It was possibly the largest prawn I have ever seen. We paired the meals with a bottle of sauvignon blanc, the perfect companion to the seafood.

Although we were rather full, we didn’t wish to side-step dessert entirely, so we just ordered some coffees and liqueurs, and my husband chose the affogato. He added a shot of Frangelico, a rich hazelnut flavoured liqueur, to his espresso and poured this over a scoop of vanilla ice cream to create a deliciously boozy caffeine-fuelled dessert. Who cares if you’re buzzing beyond bedtime, it’s Saturday night on the Gold Coast. I must also add that the customer service was exceptional. All in all, despite a small wait for my parmesan, I only have positives to say about this place and we will definitely be returning. It isn’t a cheap night out, but you get what you pay for in this life and when Dad’s footing the bill, why not spoil yourself!
