Amy Shark at The Tivoli

Last night Amy Shark played her first Brisbane concert at the Tivoli, as part of her Love Monster tour. In true Amy Shark fashion, her fans adored her, and the sold-out theatre certainly showed that. Her performance was electric, rich with the emotion that drips through her songs.

Playing at the Tivoli was coming home for Amy, who grew up on the Gold Coast. The singer-songwriter sensation was obviously thrilled to be playing at the Tivoli, a music venue that would have been hailed as the pinnacle of success while growing up.

She spoke as openly and honestly between songs, as she does in her music, not afraid to admit that much of her Love Monster album paints her in a negative light. With humour, raw commentary and personal anecdotes, her concert could be likened to having a conversation with a friend. Many say that it is her relatable honesty that draws them into her music, and last night, that allure definitely could be seen.

As the night came to a close, Shark joked that she does not understand encores, and explained to the audience that her next song would be her last, but that she would return and play her two biggest hits. Moments later, she returned to belt out Adore and I Said Hi, the two songs her fans had been waiting all night to hear.

Her concert suitably ended with a bang of glitter – a fitting way to end a spectacular night. Amy Shark returns to the Tivoli tonight for round two, for her second sold-out Brisbane concert, ready to wow another group of loyal fans, and that she will.
