With Spring officially here, now is the time to step outdoors and start soaking up that beautiful Queensland sunshine! We are so fortunate in South-East Queensland to have endless incredible activities and experiences available to us, so why not get outside and start ticking them off your list this Spring.
1. Go strawberry picking
Between June and November, there is no better way to spend a day outside enjoying nature than picking (and sampling) strawberries. Strawberry fields in the South-East are ripe and ready for picking throughout Spring, and it is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and indulge your sweet tooth in a healthy way.
We are very lucky in South-East Queensland to have an abundance of strawberry farms right on our doorstep, but here are some we recommend checking out on your next strawberry picking adventure:
- Chambers Flat Strawberry Farm (strawberry picking available in August, September and October)
- McMartin’s Strawberry Farm (located in Bli Bli, open 7 days a week, May-October)
- Rolin Farms (located in Elimbah, open from June until October for strawberry picking)
- Jarvis Fresh Strawberry Farm (located in Rochedale, be sure to take your own container)
2. Cruise around the Brisbane River
Make the most of the mild weather throughout Spring while you can, and spend a Friday, Saturday or Sunday afternoon cruising down the River with Seadeck. Leaving from the River Lookout Cruise Terminal at South Bank, it’s a fantastic way to see Brisbane from a different perspective and unwind. Seadeck will only be in Brisbane until the 21st October, so get aboard while you can!
3. Go for a hike
Before the hot weather truly hits, why not bust out your activewear and smash out a hike one weekend. There are endless walking tracks in and around Brisbane, so no matter your fitness level, you will be bound to find a hike for you. Why not check out the Greenes Falls walk at the top of Mount Glorious – it is a beautiful hike that will get your heart pumping, with a charming waterfall along the way.
We also would recommend the Walkabout Creek & Araucaria Track walk, around Enoggera Reservoir in The Gap. For more information about the walk, check out our review here.
4. Market-hop on the weekend!
Here in South-East Queensland, we are blessed to have a bounty of markets at our fingertips. What could be better than starting your weekend morning with a wander around outside, with a fresh juice in hand, while perusing local produce and goods?
In Brisbane, why not check out the West End Markets (every Saturday from 6am-2pm), or if you are further down south, we can’t recommend The Village Markets enough. You can explore The Village Markets on the first and third Sunday of every month at Burleigh Heads State School.
On the Sunshine Coast, the Eumundi Markets are the place to be every Saturday and Wednesday from 8am – 2pm. They’re the biggest and best craft market in Australia so you can be sure that you will find something among the 600 plus stalls. For more ideas about what to do in Eumundi, check out some ideas here.
5. Abseil down the Kangaroo Point Cliffs
If you are an adrenaline-junkie, a fantastic way to get a thrill without leaving the City is to abseil down the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. The unobstructed view of the City alone makes the experience special. It can be a little bit nerve-racking making that first step over the edge, but before you know it you are down the 20-metre drop and itching to go again!
Tamysn Lewis recently gave abseiling down the cliffs a go – see how she went here!
