James St‘s RESORT is almost here, meaning that fashion fever is once again upon us. Back for its’ fifth year, RESORT is a chance to celebrate Brisbane’s fashion scene and unwind, as the suburban strip transforms into a tropical oasis. From the 11th-12th October, James St will come alive, with many of Brisbane’s leading designers making appearances on the street. One of Brisbane’s most unique and edgy designers, Gail Sorronda will be there to launch her newest collection.
We recently caught up with Gail Sorronda, ahead of RESORT hitting the Valley this week.
How would you describe your label?
Dark romanticism, dark vs light, synthesising opposites.
What makes Brisbane’s fashion scene so special?
The diversity of expression and green flexibility of mindset. There is something for everyone.
Describe a day in your life as a Brisbane fashion designer…
I am either in my concept store meeting wonderful people or working from my home studio developing new ideas, often draping on a mannequin and myself; expanding on a narrative that is a collection. Having a little toddler also means more time is spent outdoors with mother nature! A Brisbane haunt we love is New Farm Park.
What do you love about Brisbane?
The quality of light.
