Miriam Young is a radio announcer with a love of all things artistic. And a favourite location of hers is the Qld Art Gallery. She recalls going there when she was a small child, and these days loves to stroll the vast hallways and simply gaze at some of her favourite artworks. One of these is on permanent display at the gallery – Charles Blackman’s ‘The Blue Alice’.

As an artist herself Miriam is very excited about holding her first solo exhibition at Artworld in early 2019. She is in the process of painting 20 canvases of deceased artists – painting great musicians while listening to their music is another of her favourite things to do.

Miriam is also a fan of live music. She and her musician partner, Jack, enjoy listening to live music and one of Brisbane’s newest live music venues is Doo-Bop Jazz Bar. Doo-Bop is open long hours, seven days a week and has over 80 live music performances each month. Late night jam sessions are held in the jazz bar in the downstairs basement and there is a piano and cocktail bar upstairs. And the cocktail bar is another reason Miriam loves this venue, as she sums up her great day out as becoming a really great day out if it finishes with a cocktail in hand!
