MICKS

Michaela Cook, or MICKS, is a Brisbane based country music singer, songwriter. From a young age, music has always been in her veins. Her father was a drummer in a South African 80’s rock band, Sweatband. Every Friday he would hold Music Appreciation Nights, where he would teach his two daughters about rock and roll’s greats.

It was from this young age that she learnt about different genres of music and how she could mix them together to create her unique sound.

She began professionally singing in 2014 and since then, her career has been on the up. In 2017, MICKS, in conjunction with Tourism Events Queensland, released a music video, ‘Everything will be alright’ which was dedicated to the Whitsundays Region, who were recovering from ex-tropical cyclone Debbie. The video won People’s Choice Award for Best Music Video at the 2018 Tamworth Country Music Festival.

When MICKS is looking for some time out from her busy schedule, she likes to head up to the Mount Coot-tha lookout, with her acoustic guitar in hand. It’s a spot where she likes to write as well as take in the beautiful view of Brisbane City.

Once the evening rolls around, Johnny Ringo’s Country Rock Saloon is a favourite spot where MICKS likes to perform. It’s through the art of storytelling that she continues to share her passion for country music with her fans.
