The Noosa Everglades

Drive 30 minutes north of Noosa and you’ll find a world of water, wilderness and wonder.

It’s a place that has more bird species than Kakadu National Park. It’s one of only two everglade systems on the planet – the other is the famous wetlands of Florida. Yet, many people don’t even know this gem of South East Queensland exists.

The Noosa Everglades are a beautiful 60km stretch of flora, fauna and narrow waterways, just waiting to be explored. They’re hidden within the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy National Park, which is why they’re so pristine. A great way to experience this untouched pocket of nature is with a guided eco-cruise that departs Habitat Noosa, on the banks of Lake Cootharaba. It’s a relaxing 3hour cruise, winding through the waterways, taking in the beautiful reflections of the tea-tree-soaked water and spotting wildlife an arm stretch away.

You can be as laidback or adventurous as you like, with the option appreciate the beauty from a different perspective – atop a kayak.

If you’ve worked up an appetite, there’s a perfectly timed morning tea stop at Harry’s Hut, where you can learn about the history of the area.

The cruise then heads back to Habitat Noosa, where a delicious lunch is included.

Habitat Noosa is 70 acres of camping for all comforts – from unpowered sites, van spots, family cabins, and brand new ensuited glamping tents. It’s perched on the edge of beautiful Lake Cootharaba, so guests can make the most of an escape surrounded by nature.

There’s an onsite restaurant, which welcomes day visitors, and a boutique eco-micro-brewery. They brew 4 beers onsite, and a tasting paddle is a great way to sample them all. What makes this beer even more special is that it uses water drawn from the artesian sandmass, that’s been filtered for 80,000 years.

We can well and truly say that this place offers something for everyone – adventure lovers, those seeking a little R&R, couples, families, friends and groups.

If you’d like to enjoy a bit of time in nature, why not book an escape at Habitat Noosa.

You can opt for a Noosa Everglades eco-tour during your stay, or book it as a daytrip with transfers from Noosa.
