HMAS Brisbane

In it’s heyday, HMAS Brisbane was a formidable force on the high seas – a guided-missile destroyer for the Royal Australian Navy.

Having been retired from service, the ship was scuttled and laid to rest on on a patch of sand, 27 metres below the ocean waves, just off Mooloolaba – creating an artificial reef that’s the site of one of south-east Queensland’s best dives.

Certified scuba divers of all standards will love the range of things to see within the sunken structure – from big pelagic fish to delicate nudibranchs that have made their homes in the wreck.
