Blackall Range

The Blackall Range on the Sunshine Coast is a terrific destination for a day drive or weekend journey. The drive links the three Ms, the lovely towns of Maleny, Montville and Mapleton.

Along the way there are many places to stop and tourist attractions to enjoy. One to put on any drive itinerary is Maleny Dairies. They offer visitors deliciousness in many forms. Milk. Custard. Cream. Yoghurt.

And their daily tours give guests the opportunity to see the process from cow to bottle, and everything in between.

Nearby is the popular Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World. The 16 acre gardens opened in 2012 and visitors are invited to bring a picnic, enjoy a Devonshire tea or simply find peace in the tranquil surrounds.

But for many, the main attraction is the 1500 square metre bird aviary that is home to over 600 exotic birds. The list includes McCaws, finches, cockatoos and lorikeets. Tours of the aviaries are held daily.

For those wanting to turn their day drive into a weekend journey can base themselves at the Falls Montville. It offers luxury accommodation just minutes from Montville and a short walk from Kondalilla National Park.

There’s a stunning, historic Queenslander which has six rooms, each with a private ensuite. And the European furnishings and art are classic, classy and beautiful. There are also rainforest spa cottages which are perfect for couples on a romantic escape.
