Last August, the cast and crew of Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok descended on Brisbane to film the latest super hero blockbuster.
The job of recreating New York City in Brisbane fell to location manager Duncan Jones. Duncan and his team spent days transforming Esk Lane, just off Mary Street, into a New York City laneway where Thor sees action in a super hero showdown.
Another location that is seen in the film is the corner of Margaret and Albert Streets. It was here where up to ten thousand locals gathered to see Hollywood movie magic come to Brisbane.
Brisbane’s CBD provided great locations to shoot the movie and it also provides a terrific cinema to watch the movie.
The Elizabeth Picture Theatre has just opened in what used to the be old Irish Club. The heritage listed building now hosts five state of the art cinemas in an opulent setting that harks back to the picture theatres of old.
On Tuesdays, the theatre offers discounts. $10 tickets to the two larger theatres and $22 tickets to the Royal theatres that have their own bar and food service.
For Marvel fans, ‘The Great Day Out’ is giving away four Thor: Ragnarok prize packs. They include a backpack, earphones, posters, stickers, T-shirt and much more. Head to the Great Day Out Facebook page to find out how to win!
