The Royal Ballet

The Royal Ballet is visiting Australia for the first time in 15 years and has chosen Brisbane as the venue for the company’s exclusive season. It’s part of QPAC’s International Series – an annual presentation of some of the world’s finest performing arts companies.

Two original works by The Royal Ballet will come to QPAC – Woolf Works and The Winter’s Tale. Both are being performed for the first time outside the company’s Covent Garden home in London. Winter’s Tale graces QPAC’s Lyric Theatre stage from July 5 – 9.

QPAC’s International Series is more than a treat for local audiences: it gives local artists the opportunity to work alongside the world’s best. The dreams of three young Brisbane boys – Scout, Sol and Jensen – will come true as they share the stage with their idols in The Winter’s Tale.

The International Series also offers masterclasses for local ballet schools. The Queensland Symphony Orchestra will be the lead orchestra for The Royal Ballet’s performances in Brisbane.

Getting an insight into working with The Royal Ballet isn’t just for artists. There’s a full program of off-stage events for visitors, like the Creative Insights session with Christopher Wheeldon – the choreographer of The Winter’s Tale – on July 7. There’s also a free exhibition in the QPAC tunnel walkway and the fun Let’s Dance Program explores all forms of dance with a variety of free lessons for the public.

A highlight of the off-stage program is the free exhibition at QPAC’s Tony Gould Gallery. The Made on the Body exhibition explores the choreography of The Royal Ballet throughout its history. Visual displays and behind-the-scenes footage highlights the power and skill of telling a story through dance. The free exhibition is on until September 9.

To witness the magnificence of The Royal Ballet for yourself, make sure you secure your tickets on the QPAC website.

The Winter’s Tale is on at the Lyric theatre from Wednesday the 5th of July until the 9th.
