The Johnson in Brisbane’s Spring Hill is a masterful blend of fine art and stylish accommodation.
It’s the city’s first hotel in the Art Series – a collection of boutique destinations across Australia, each dedicated to a contemporary artist.
The Johnson is named for Michael Johnson – the Sydney-based contemporary artist whose vibrant paintings were influenced by years spent in tropical Queensland.
Around 400 prints and 3 original pieces feature throughout the hotel – in the lobby, corridors, rooms and in the hotel’s restaurant, Tumbling Stone.
There’s also a splash of historical colour – the building itself is well-known to legions of motorists as the former headquarters of the Department of Main Roads.
The Johnson Art Series Hotel is close to Brisbane’s CBD and Fortitude Valley.
In the Valley’s Brunswick Street, you’ll find another hub for clever creatives – Queensland’s Craft and Design Centre, Artisan.
Artisan invites the public to browse its art and craft store where emerging artists have the chance to showcase their talents. The centre also hosts gallery exhibitions and a calendar of creative workshops, aimed at aspiring artists and artisans.
