The Brains Behind Jericho Road Clothing

There is nothing more we love than a local Brisbane business killing it, especially one famous for its’ quirky bold patterns and prints. Despite only launching in February 2016, Jericho Road Clothing is quickly gaining traction by the day, cementing a name for itself in Australia’s fashion scene. We love that Jericho Road is run by two Brisbane sisters, who swapped lives in the classroom for lives in the fashion game.

We recently caught up with Chloe and Kate about the evolution of Jericho Road Clothing, and why they are so glad they call Brisbane home.

How did Jericho Road Clothing begin?

We’ve always had this crazy love for fashion but I guess we never really knew where to take it. During uni, we’d buy old jeans from op shops and turn them into cut off shorts or cut off jeans and take them to a market in the city to sell and it was actually quite a successful side business for us. We’d always toyed with the idea of printing our own design onto a dress and after a few trips to Hong Kong we thought we’d take the plunge and manufacture our first ever Arizona shift dress, now quite iconic to our label. We had to order 100 pieces as that was the MOQ for a fabulous factory we had found. So, we started an Instagram page and a pre-sale to pay for it all and guess what? We sold out! Since launching our first ever dress, there’s been a lot of hard work involved, lots of learning and plenty of fun. We’re so excited to see what the future holds for Jericho Road Clothing.

How would you describe Jericho Road Clothing?

As a brand, we focus on great quality fabrics, fun prints that stand out. Our most important factor is creating clothing that everyone can wear and feel confident in. We have ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes message us regularly to say how fabulous they feel when wearing Jericho Road Clothing and this is our main aim, it’s what puts a smile on our dial!

What makes Brisbane’s fashion scene so special?

The first two words that come to mind when we think of the Brisbane fashion scene, are unique and emerging. We think it is growing so quickly and it is beginning to get noticed. We love being based in Brisbane because we also feel that the design industry is tight-knit and really supportive. There are so many other small business ladies who are doing wonderful things and are always willing to share their wisdom and help each other out.

What do you love about Brisbane?

Honestly, what’s not to love about Brisbane! We have the most amazing weather and can wear dresses all year round. We love that it’s laid-back, has great food and coffee and that we are so close to some of the most beautiful beaches.

Has there been a pinch-yourself moment with Jericho Road Clothing?

The moment we saw Celeste Barber in one of our dresses on television.

Where can we shop Jericho Road Clothing?

You can shop our whole range on our online store or we have a list of our stockists on our website if you’d prefer to try before you buy.

With strawberries hot on everybody’s minds, it is no wonder that Brisbane’s best fashion bloggers are donning Jericho Road’s strawberry-themed pieces to show their support for local farmers. We recently caught up with Nikki from Styling You in her ‘Sweeties Top’ at the Ekka Strawberry Sundae fundraiser for our Strawberry Growers in King George Square.
